Bupa National Cricket Centre

Cricket Australia’s National Centre of Excellence is a uniquely designed professional sports centre. Purposefully constructed in shape and form, this building provides Cricket Australia with an international standard elite sports training facility designed to foster innovation, and to advance Australia’s leading role in the world of Cricket.

The design brings shape and form to the building that makes it visually interesting, ergonomic and inspiring to be within. The design thematic celebrates the timbers of cricket bats, and the Australian team colours of green and gold. Large areas of glazing provide natural light, which improves training and working inside, while also reducing operating costs significantly. TVS architects left no stone unturned; every detail and requirement has been clarified to make sure the building helps the team and the sport become more successful.

Cricket is the heart of this building’s design. The building houses indoor practice nets, running tracks, gymnasium, sports science facility, sports medicine centre, indoor pool and hydro-therapy, training rooms, nutrition centre, library and offices. Like a hotel atrium, the building rises up around the practice and training area with the other uses all visually and spatially connected to the centre of the building. TVS has delivered a state of the art dynamic, sustainable, durable and safe facility which will continue to be an asset and enhance future generations of Australian cricket athletes and professionals. Through appropriate selection of materials, equipment and systems, long term savings on operation and maintenance costs are being achieved. This can be seen in the use of materials such as sun shading devices, prefinished insulated wall panels, polished concrete and rainwater harvesting.
