Project: The Coolangatta Golf Club
Project Description:
The original clubhouse is some 40 years old now with various alterations and additions having taken place in the past. The original architectural character and materials were maintained through the later development stages, however internal layouts and use allocations were compromised through the various additions.
The club’s board through the refurbishment (Stage 1) aimed to achieve the following goals;
- Modernise the exterior façade and make the structure appear “lighter” - Reduce maintenance costs for the exterior of the building - Provide better identification of the “front door” from the carpark as well as add an entry awning to provide weather protection for guests arriving from the carpark - Open up the views from the club to the surrounding golf course and Tweed River - Internally rationalise the gaming and coffee shop areas which are currently in conflict by relocating the gaming area and the coffee shop to make better use of existing spaces with panoramic views of the Tweed River.
Later stages planned are: internal refurbishment of the bar and lounge area, kitchen facilities and restaurant extention to incorporate a large deck for outdoor dining, upgrading of the existing large functions room and the associated bar, upgrading of all amenities including players locker/change rooms, reception and administration.
TVS architects were involved in the master planning of the entire refurbishment proposal and proposed staging to ensure continuity between stages. TVS architects were also involved in vehicle and pedestrian accessibility planning during the refurbishment to minimise the impact to the club trading during construction works.
